Corvallis and Seven Feathers

8/26/17

We said our goodbyes to Berk and Gloria and drove to Corvallis, to Jeanette and David’s house.  Jeanette and I went through school together from 6th grade on.  We were cousins in 7th grade due to a marriage in the family and enjoyed calling each other ‘cuz’ all through school.  Over the years we have traveled quite a bit with Jeanette and David and really enjoy them.  We arrived at their business location called Kammerer Park.  It is a business park in Corvallis.  David was waiting for us in his van.  We left the motorhome and Jeep at the Park, and went up to the house (about a mile away) to see if the driveway would be OK for the motorhome.  It looked OK, so we went back to the Park and unhooked the Jeep and drove three vehicles back up to the house.  I parked the Jeep and David helped Tom park the motorhome and get it leveled.  We walked the dogs and went in to visit with both of them.

We talked, watched football (Oregon vs. ColoradoOregon lost)—had lunch, then drinks and more visiting.  Jeanette played cards and had a good time.  There was a lot of laughing, in fact, Jeanette had me belly laughing more than I have done in a long time.  She fixed tacos for dinner and we managed to get caught up on the two families, and reminisce on our time in the mountains as kids.  Their home in Corvallis is beautiful.  They sit on 2 ½ acres and they have wild animals roaming through their yard.  Here is a picture of a bunch of wild turkeys parading through their yard.  We have also seen deer, and they say there is a bobcat roaming also.

We took off in their car for the coast – Lincoln City.  We visited several art shops and had lunch at the Rusty Truck (they had good fish and chips).  We stopped at the Goodwill Store, which is always a good stop for Jeanette (she loves to find a new treasure).  This trip, however, the store was filled with Halloween stuff, and we didn’t see anything special.  We stopped at a Dairy Queen for ice cream, and we were all just stuffed.

We drove back home and I made a couple of calls to my cousins in the Sacramento area.  It doesn’t look like our timing is good for either of my two cousins.  Steve is having some medical issues and tied up, and Leanne and her husband just sold their business, so I don’t know if a stop there is going to work out.  We will have to see how the next couple of days work out.

Tom, Jeanette, and David all fell asleep when we got home, so they had naps.  I worked on my blog and called on reservations for our next stop.  After naps, we played Poker and Phase 10 (a new rummy game) until 1:00 a.m., at which point none of us could hold our eyes open anymore---Very Tired.

Today is Larkin’s birthday and she is 11.  I tried to call, but could only leave a message for her.  I hope she got my card on time, and had a great day.  Tom and I had a lazy morning and spent a little extra time with the dogs.  Then I packed up my computer and went into the house to try and work on my blog and get it published.  I had some trouble with my laptop and had to call for help.  I was on the phone for about an hour, but got it fixed and was able to get on the internet again.  Jeanette fixed lunch, and David had a dentist appointment.  In the afternoon we went to the local movie theater and saw “Wind River”.  It was pretty good, but had some slow spots in it.  We stopped for dinner at Applebees, then a little shopping on the way back to the house.  We watched the news and a couple of shows on TV, then played cards the rest of the night.  We quit at midnight and called it a night—another fun day.

We will be traveling today again, but we have the morning with Jeanette and David.  I took pictures of their house and we walked all through the new walkways in the yard.  It was all very beautiful.  We packed up the motorhome and drove 4 vehicles down to the Business Park.  There we got a tour of all the renovations to the buildings and especially the big building in the back that we used to call the ‘palace’.  It used to be rented out as a house and the young couple fixed it up like a palace.  Now, it was being renovated for new tenants.  It is a 3000 square foot space on two floors with a stainless steel staircase rail and fencing for the top floor made by David – it is stunning!

We had lunch with Jeanette and David and said our goodbyes around 2:00.  The area around Roseburg was filled with smoke from several wildfires.  It wasn’t quite as bad as we saw in British Columbia, but pretty bad.  We arrived at Seven Feathers RV Resort, filled up the tank, and parked for naps.

I fixed dinner, we watched some TV, then washed my hair and sat out while Tom cleaned up.    It was 11:30, and we were tired again.

This RV Park is by far, the most beautiful park we visit.  We discovered it several years before, and make it a regular stop in our travels back and forth to Portland.  I am always amazed by the pristine landscaping and the multitudes of flowers.  There is every possible amenity here that any traveler could imagine.  No wonder the truckers flock in to the Truck Stop.

We had a lazy morning, then left in the Jeep for Spangler Vineyards in Roseburg.  We discovered this Oregon winery on a previous trip, and the wine is excellent.  We tasted several of their wines, including my favorite and some new ones.  We settled on three wines and enjoyed our visit with the lady at the counter.  Then we drove north a little to Kruse Farms for fruit and veggies (including Walla Walla onions, my favorite).

Back to the RV for lunch and a little bookkeeping.  After dinner, we went over to the casino via their shuttle and spent a couple of hours there.  All in all, a very good day.

Our cousins in the Sacramento area are tied up and cannot make our visit this time.  We will have to see them on our next drive north, or maybe they will come south to see us.  Meanwhile, we have a little extra time, so we are staying here at Seven Feathers an extra day.  Tom got busy with the laundry.  I went to the office to print off some statements, but the printer was out of toner and they were so busy at the front desk, that there was no time for anybody to fix it.

We fed the dogs and headed over to the casino as tonight is their Seafood Buffet (I was looking forward to lobster).  When we got there, we learned two things: 1) there was a 2 hour wait for seating in the buffet, and 2) no lobster – only crab.  I like crab, but I love lobster, so…..no lobster = no buffet.  There were other restaurants in the casino, so we went to a different one.  Our dinner was very good, and Tom actually had lobster raviolis, but no lobster for me.  We played games in the casino for a couple of hours and left a little money behind.

We went to bed, but I started thinking about all that had to be done when we get home and couldn’t turn off my mind, so I got up and wrote lists.  Then played games on my phone, and stayed up until after 3.  The closer we get to home, the more anxious I get about all there is to do.  Why can’t I turn it off?

Tomorrow, we start our drive straight home.  It will take 4 days of overnight stops.  No touring, no shopping, and no campers to meet.
